With the addition of the newly released I Need a Nude palette to my collection, I thought it would be fun to rank all my Natasha Denona midi palettes. I am a huge Natasha Denona eyeshadow fan and own most of her eyeshadow releases, but to keep things simple (and really for my own sanity!) I will not be including the mini 5-pan palettes or her larger palettes in this exercise. Ranking those palettes will be another post for another day.
My ranking criteria will be based primarily on how much I use the palette and also how much I like the colour story. To start, I divided the palettes into 3 groups – my least favourites of the bunch, the middle of the pack, and my absolute favourites (i.e. the ones I am very likely to replace if anything happens to them).
The Bottom of the Pile
A quick note, I love both of these palettes, but they just simply are my least favourite compared to the others. I do not generally keep makeup around that I don’t like.
8. Zendo – I really love this colour story, there is something about it that is just so pleasing to look at. But, I never use this palette, and on the rare occasion I do, I really only use the warmer shades on the left because blue or green shadows are just not my thing.
7. Pastel – I almost skipped on picking this up, but I’m really glad I didn’t! It is special in my collection as the only pastel eyeshadows I own. I mainly use this palette for the shimmer shades to complement other palettes – they make such a great topper or inner corner highlight.
The Middle of the Pack
6. Sunrise – This is my first midi palette and will always have a special place. I just absolutely love the lilac shimmer on the left. However, the pinks and yellows here are just not that flattering on my skin tone so I really do not use this palette often.
5. Bronze – Love the colour story. This is the first palette I think of when I am in the mood for warm tones like these. It’s in this spot because most days I prefer cooler or neutral shades.
4. Retro – Just like the Bronze palette, this is not a colour story I use often but when I’m wanting some mauve/berry shades this is the palette I reach for. It ranks higher than Bronze because I like these shades more and they are more unique to my collection.
My Favourites
3. My Dream – A very very close third. I absolutely love this palette, the colour story is gorgeous! If you are only going to buy one palette, this is the one I would recommend because it is so versatile! You can go all the way from neutral day-to-day to a sultry glam look using these shades. There is also a good variety of shades, neutral browns, warm browns, and berries. If you’re wondering why mine looks brand new, it’s because this is a new one I got as a replacement after I dropped and broke my other palette.
2. Glam – I struggled long and hard with this, but ultimately settled on putting this in second place. The Glam palette has sat on the top of my favourites list for a long time and I am sure if you asked me to choose my favourite again I would change my mind. This is my go-to neutral cool tone palette, and she is special amongst a sea of warm toned palettes out there. The shimmers in this palette are absolutely gorgeous and like it’s name suggests able to glam up any eye look.
1.. I Need a Nude – And there you have it! It’s no surprise that the most neutral everyday friendly palette is my favourite. It narrowly edged out the Glam palette just because I simply reach for this one more and I also find that these true neutral tones are more flattering on my skin tone compared to the cooler tones of the Glam palette. This palette can be quite versatile, the darker shades serve well to deepen up any look and the sparkly shimmers add just the right touch of glam. I have a detailed review and swatches of this palette here.
What do you think of this ranking? Do you agree? I’d love to know how you would rank them!
