The latest from Danessa Myricks, is a series of complexion products in her Yummy Skin range. I picked up all three of the products, and have been trying them on separately and in various combinations with each other over the past few weeks. For me, there are some hits and misses amongst these new releases.
Glow Serum
The Glow Serum (C$46, available in 2 shades) is described as a skincare-infused, radiant priming serum that hydrates, preps, and protects skin, with skin-friendly ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. I have the lighter of the two shades.
I don’t have much to say about this product, except that it is amazing as a glowy primer. Applied lightly with fingers, it gives a nice lit-from-within glow. I can’t be certain of the skincare benefits (and I wouldn’t be expecting to use a product like this in place of skincare anyway!), but as a primer this is one of my favorites.
Serum Foundation
I wish I could say the same about the Serum Foundation (C$46, available in 26 shades). The Sephora page describes this as a medium coverage with radiant finish foundation, and I thought it was neither of those things. I would say this is definitely medium-full coverage, and the finish was more natural/matte. Now, full disclaimer here, I do not tend to like higher coverage foundations but I try to not let that influence my thoughts.
First, the pros. I love the squeeze tube packaging and that it is refillable. Refills are available for C$32. The shade match is amazing. I picked up the shade 6N, which is a perfect match to my light neutral skin (I wear NC 20 in Mac, or 2N in Dior).
I found this foundation to take quite some practice to work with. A small amount goes a long way! And be sure to use a very light hand. It got cakey on me if I even applied just the slightest amount more. I found it easier applied with a sponge, with a brush I just couldn’t get it to blend right. Maybe it’s just me because I rarely use a brush when applying foundation.
It layered well on top of the primer, but I think because it was such high coverage, it actually canceled out the glowy base from the primer. YMMV.
Blurring Balm Powder
The Blurring Balm Powder (C$48, 11 shades) is easily my favorite product out of the trio. It promises to balance oils while maintaining hydration and I think it does just that. I have combo-normal skin, and this balm managed to control the oils of my t-zone and I managed to go hours without having to powder. I have it in shade 3.
With a cream to powder like texture, this is a multi-use product that can be used as primer, setting powder, or foundation. I have tried it on it’s own and together with the other two products. On it’s own it’s great, but lightly layered over the Glow Serum is my favorite way to use it. I am not a fan of using it as a setting powder because I find it just makes my base start to look overly heavy.
If you would like to see swatches or comparisons, I will be happy to post them on my Instagram Stories. Just let me know! These products are available at Sephora and Beautylish. Have you tried anything from this release? What do you think?
